The Real Estate Technology Pilgrimage

It’s become an annual Real Estate technology pilgrimage of sorts.  An almost instinctive  migration that happens every January, like clockwork. Data nerds, realtors, and leadership teams will flock to New York despite the expense, terrible weather, and tiny accommodations. A few thousand will attempt to blend into the drab, black cloaked masses hustling along the snowy sidewalks around midtown. And they all share a similar and common set of goals.  To meet, to learn, and to connect.

Every year is unique. There are always special moments that stand out.  You can always count on lobby-con random connections, conversations or drinks at dive bars. Other connections are planned, polished and well orchestrated – such as Tiffany McQuaids Book Release at Tiffany’s this year. (I pre ordered mine just now)

Revaluate first attended Inman Connect  9 years ago and much has changed in our world since then. Way back then was the launch of selfie sticks, the first smartwatch (remember pebble?) and we started to leverage “big data” at Revaluate.

However,  it’s also striking to see how much change has occurred in the last 12 months in real estate technology – since the previous edition of Inman Connect New York.  I’m looking forward to becoming a sponge and soaking up opinions and predictions so I may lead our team with greater insight and knowledge in 2024.

Advice from Experience

ICNY is a special event and newbies need to know a few tips. First: “Don’t go big on the first night” is critical. Also, you should not wait 30+ min in the coffee line, but rather step outside the lobby and in front of the Hilton – there are multiple coffee shops within view. Pack a few of those powdered IV / Pedialite type drink mixes. They are good if you didn’t follow advice point one, but also offset the taste of the tap water. Also, be sure to find time to mingle at the hotel bars – the epicenter of ICNY speakers and guests.

Revaluate typically exhibits at ICNY and this year is no exception.  Our Kiosk will be directly outside the main event space.  Stop by and say hi and grab a Data Nerd freebie.  I’ll also have a moment on stage to share as a speaker This will be my fifth time doing so.

As a long time exhibitor, we always like to have some great topical news to share for this highly educated and thoughtful crowd. This year we decided to lean into current events even more.  For context, here’s our new elevator pitch:

“With new changes to lead gen rules dictated by the government, the winning strategy is to generate listings from your database. However, most agent databases are toxic and full of duplication and missing contact information and yet also full of listings and missed opportunities.  Revaluate will grade and audit your database for free, repair your database, map your database, and identify the value of the potentials of your database. http://revaluate.com/free

Above all, I’m looking forward to this ritual to reconnect with friends from the past.  They too will join this annual event to kick off what promises to be a very unique year in real estate and real estate technology.  If you are intending to up your real estate technology game in 2024, I hope to see you there.
