Taming The Impossible Leads Task

Bernard Moitessier The Long Way BookImpossible tasks are engaging.

When facing a daunting task years ago, I sought the advice of my dad – who reminded me to ask myself: “How do you eat an elephant?”  The answer: “One bite at a time.”

(I’m pretty sure elephants are protected – so don’t try this at home).

I enjoy reading books about attempting or accomplishing a nearly impossible task. Over the 4th of July, I read The Long Way by Bernard Moitessier, who sailed around the world one and a half times nonstop, singlehanded (solo).  This is an incredibly impossible task – and he did it decades before GPS, cell phones and electronic charts – in 1968.   He was practiced and prepared, with the right tools and was extremely efficient.

At times, I feel that running and growing a company is an impossible task.  But recently, I recorded a new episode of the Real Estate Dish Podcast with Eric Cosway. Not only was it a blast, but it reveals some of my embarrassing and geeky background.  I really got to reflecting on the success we’ve seen and the growth metrics we’ve achieved.  We talked about how Revaluate started, how we became more efficient, how we got funding and important things, like championship BBQ contests, what it’s really like to be CEO of an AI company and sailing in Kansas (spoiler alert, it’s awesome).

To this point, developing Revaluate and our AI has not been an easy project, but highly enjoyable and I’m insanely proud of the people, the product and the results that Revaluate produces.

apartment searchingMortgage and Real Estate companies and their LO’s and Agents have an impossible task sitting in front of them every month.  They have thousands to hundreds of thousands of leads that need to be cultivated, contacted and cared for – more calls and emails are required than there are hours in the day.  I sympathize with this impossible task.  But as with every impossible task – there is a way.  You simply need to find tools to make you more efficient. You need tools that help you cut the clutter and focus your valuable time nurturing those leads that could earn you the big bucks.

Bernard Moitessier ends his book with the reminder that magnificent coconut trees don’t grow overnight, they take time – so, go plant a tree and nurture it’s growth… one bite at a time.
