Algorithms run the Social Media game. They are the thing we all struggle with trying to figure out the magic formula to make our posts rise up in the newsfeed.
In recent years, organic traffic has dropped 80%, and there’s a reason for that; algorithms. They are designed to lift higher quality content higher up into the newsfeed.

So how do you beat the algorithm?

1. Less is More

It’s not about a large amount of content anymore, it’s actually about less.
On Facebook, if you want your content to be seen, just put out one post a day and make it’s the of the highest quality content that you can.

2. Video Content Rules!

Facebook loves live videos.
A lot of us are afraid to do live video, but in 2017, live video became the new selfie. Just jump in and do it!
The great thing about facebook live is: the moment you start recording, all of your friends will get a notification about it which will draw their attention to your post and increase engagement.

3. Evergreen Content is Gone

That’s the content you create that you can share over and over again.
Twitter, for example, has a new algorithm that doesn’t like duplicate content. Now you need to post content once and make it killer; the title, the copy, the image that you use has to be on point.
If you use the same content again, you want to make sure to change the image and change the copy. But, ultimately, Twitter is looking at the link and you won’t get the same traffic if the link is a duplicate.

4. Timing is everything

This is mostly related to Instagram.
You don’t want to put another post out as long as your post is getting traffic, likes and engagement. The minute you do that, Instagram is going to drop the post that’s getting the engagement and start promoting the new one.
That’s a general rule for all social media outlets. If you have a post that is performing well on and you want it to be seen by more people, hold off on posting any new content.

At Realtor.com, they discovered their most successful formula for Instagram is to post once every 5 days. That does not apply to stories. You can still post stories as often as you want.

5. Refocus on Communities

A big trend on social media right now is to refocus on community.
As a realtor, unless you have a team, you don’t need to have a facebook page, your profile is enough. You don’t even need to put out content.
You can spend your time connecting with others by following people’s social profiles, or liking and commenting on their content, starting conversations and building relationships.

If you want to promote your listings, take out a Facebook ad and create a very targeted audience for it. Reserve your profile for connecting and keep it relevant to everyone in your audience.
